Privacy Policy

Screen Famous is a screen recorder that you run on your own Mac, iPhone or iPad. This policy explains what data the software handles, what the small number of online services behind it see, and what this website collects. The short version: your recordings, your camera and your audio stay on your device. We do not have them.

1. The Screen Famous app on your Mac

Everything the app produces lives in files on your machine:

None of this is sent to us. There is no Screen Famous account, no sign-in and no server that holds your recordings. Exporting an MP4 or GIF happens on your Mac too.

macOS asks you for Screen Recording, Camera and Microphone permission before the app can use them; you can revoke any of them in System Settings at any time.

2. The Screen Famous app on iPhone and iPad

Your screen recordings, the talk-overs you record with the camera and microphone, the videos and images you pick from Photos, your avatar and your settings stay on your iPhone or iPad. Editing and exporting happen on the device. There is no account and no sign-in. iOS asks before the app can use the camera, the microphone or your photos; you can change that in Settings at any time.

The app makes one network request: after the short introduction it sends the answer to "How did you hear about us?" to screenfamous.com, together with your language, your country, the device type and the app version — and an email address only if you typed one to hear about updates. We store it to understand how people find the app and, if you gave an email, to send you those updates. It never contains a recording, a photo or anything from your screen.

The one-time unlock is an in-app purchase handled by Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account; the purchase is checked on the device with Apple's StoreKit. Reminders, if you allow notifications, are scheduled on the device and are not sent through a server.

3. Online services the Mac app uses

A few things need a server. Each one sees as little as possible.

License activation. When you enter a license key, the app sends the key, your Mac's name and the app version to our license server at screenfamous.com to activate it, and re-checks it about once a day. The server stores the key, the name and email from the purchase, the activation names and, if you arrived through a campaign link, the campaign tags (source, medium, campaign, referrer). Stripe holds the payment record (name, email, payment details) under its own privacy policy. We use these records only to support you and prevent abuse.

Remote configuration. At launch the app fetches a small JSON file from screenfamous.com that can adjust the free-mode limits (for example the export length cap) without an app update. The request carries no personal data beyond your IP address, which we do not log.

Update checks. The app checks for new versions with Sparkle by fetching an appcast from releases.screenfamous.com, on launch and periodically. That request carries your app version and macOS version and no personal data; we do not log it.

Crash reports and support emails. If the app crashes it offers to email us a report; nothing is sent unless you choose to send it. The "email support with logs" action opens a draft in your mail app with the log file attached for you to review before sending.

GIF search. If you search for GIFs inside the app, the search terms are sent through a proxy on screenfamous.com to the GIF provider so that the provider's API key never has to live inside the app. We do not log search terms.

4. This website

Newsletter. If you give us your email address we store it with our mailing-list provider, with the page you came from, to send you the release notes you asked for. Unsubscribe links are in every email; you can also write to us to be removed.

Purchases. Checkout happens on Stripe's pages. We receive your name, email and order details so we can support you and issue your license key, which we email to you through Resend, our email provider.

Feedback. Messages sent through the Feedback button are stored in our database and emailed to us so we can reply.

Analytics and campaign tags. When enabled, this site uses Google Analytics and may load advertising pixels to measure which pages and campaigns lead to downloads and purchases. A ref or utm_* parameter on the URL you arrived with is kept in a cookie for 14 days and attached to a purchase or signup so we know which campaign it came from.

5. Your rights

You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its use. Write to [email protected]. Deleting a license record also disables the key. We keep purchase records for as long as tax law requires.

6. Changes

We will update this page when the software or the services change. The date at the top tells you when.
